The Wise Children

You better recognise!!!! - From my friend James Yarde!

Peeps!

I hope all is well with you.

I just wanted to let you know about this project that I'm pulling together. Forgive me if I've rammed this down you ear at some point already, but I felt it timely and necessary to hit you all up once again. On this occasion, I'm after your input.

We are The WiseChildren. You may have heard us already if you purchased Terri Walker's Mercury Nominated LP "Untitled", or her Third LP "I am". We played on, and co-wrote the songs titled, "Dirty Weekend" and "Imperative".

Anyway, enough historical talk. The current idea is simple and made of three main ingredients.

1) A bunch of musicians, with freshly squeezed creative juices flowing . . .

In the line up we have . . .

Eric "8 pack" Appapoulay on guitar,

Richard Cassell "The Beatmaker", though I prefer to call him the original WyleeKyat, on the drums

(You may remember those guys from the Apricot Jam if you and I go back that far.)

Pino Palladino, the bass guitar playing legend who's credits read like a whose who of the music world, from The Who to D'angelo,

Oleta Adams, Paul Simon, Gary Numan. (If I listed just half of the names here, this email would be too, too long!!

You wanna see?? Go look.)

Dave Okumu on guitar, of Jade Fox and now of The Invisible fame

Jason Yarde on the sax, my bigger bro and all round musical genius, plus, his angry notes . . .

Harry Brown the man about town on trombone and

Mark Crown aka the trumpet wizard.

Oh, and myself, James Yarde, of course, on the keys.

2) A series of studio recorded jam sessions, featuring super spicy, special guest artists . . .

Artists who have seasoned the sessions so far include, Marcina Arnold, Rachael Bell, Julie Dexter, Zena Edwards, Michelle Escoffery, Elisha Laverne, Eska Mtungwazi, and Amina.

When you've done reading this, you can watch video footage of some of us doing our thing here.

Soon to jam artists include Jonzi D, Terri Walker, TY and Joker Starr plus a few others that I won't mention, yet.

Born out of this blend will be a ever growing body of new music. We don't restrict ourself by genre.

We simply follow and develop any ideas we come up with that work. Groove is the only essential.

At this point I have to mention Soliheen, Ian Heron and David McEwan who assist us with their much appreciated energy,

vibes and technical support.

and speaking of support . . the third ingredient . . .

3) The love of you, hopefully. . . . With your ripe musical appetites. . .

Thats right peeps. Your love is the water that'll allow this thing to grow.

The ingredients for the first LP are currently being blended. It'll soon be cookin'. In the meantime, some material will be availiable on the iTunes store, amongst other places, in the near future.

We may even hit our loyal fans of with some free 'in progress' goodies along the way, to keep appetites wet.

Plus, we'll be scheduling some live jam sessions and showcases, so we can get up close and personal with you soon.

Come find us on our MySpace (see links below) and sellaband pages, listen to the music, subscribe to the blogs. We'll be documenting the process via these pages. We''ll soon have pages on Facebook and Last fm too, so keep an eye out. Spread the word. Run go tell ya fren!

Forward this email to anyone who you feel would be interested. (But only if they'd really be interested.)

Before you go, hit me with some feedback regarding this.

  • What do you think?
  • Are there any artists with whom you'd like to see us collaborate?
  • Any corners of the web, or the planet, you think we should appear? Venues we should play?
  • Let me know your views . . . even if you'd just like to volunteer your support.

Hit me back now, ya hear!?

Peace and Much Love

James

Randomly won tickets on Sunday night but didn't find out until yesterday afternoon. 6 frantic calls, numerous texts and a couple of emails followed and the dude and I went off to Belsize park. (Af - sorry but you were too black, maybe next time!)

Arrive at the venue (AIR Studios, Hampstead), met with a very low-key clipboard guy and a couple of security guards where we were then handed with iTunes lanyards - great ebay material - until we realised they gave us 10 free downloads! Anyway, hit the floor and it's the usual, label types, musos and the standard issue topshop kids, but chilled all the same. met a couple of people there through the dude, and then the cotching began. didn't have to put with too much pushing and shoving and I managed to get a good spot (I'm 5' 6'' ish). Estelle's Male bv kept wlaking around like a man on a mission!

Not too much celebrity content - which is always a plus in my eyes. (Reggie Yates was there looking like a typical Stratti boy! - don't act like we didn't see you toking!, everyone around us was fawning over him - he just makes a couple more grand than us! - Dude saw him watching me!)

Most importantly - met up with my boys SJ Robertson and Stevie FM! Highlight of my night (Forum crew since 2003) never met these guys, but I feel like that they have become family, listening to all of my rants and issues with companies! - check them out via myspace and whatnot!

Acts: (small breakdowns I'm afraid - a girl has got to work!)

Tawiah

HOT!!!!

Brilliant, jazzy, soulful, drummer a bit hype (typical church drummer - no beef just being real - good job I can tune into vocals anyway), Rhythm section on point, Vula was on backing vocals (so needs a good bra - sorry hun but it's true, come see me at Bravissimo!) Always liked what I've heard on her myspace (another BRIT school pupil though! - I resent the fact we wern't pushed to go there in school days. Actually I read an article the other day that classed the BRIT school as a wanabee pop star factory LMAO! - so true!

Vid via Stevie!

Daniel Merriweather

Great voice (and he was ill), reminded me a bit of Tyler James (CT BABY!) and my mate M Torres, just him and guitar (Another dude called Michael, absolutely brilliant!), something very cheeky chappy about him. Always knew he was good, but dang this bouy can SANG!

Estelle

Fixed up big time!!! (sorry but there was something about her that I just couldn't "get"). Brilliant entertainer (always has been) - her male backing has always seemed a lil extra (If you look extra on TV, and that's hard trust me!, you are over extra). Great songs, she is coming back strong (to inadvertently quote miss-teeq) I still can't get over her catting will.i.am's impatient though! Her PA backed out during 1980 and she managed to save it (what can I say , technical issues know when dude and I are in town, dude was ready to hit the sound desk and you know it!) Smaller than I thought, but had heavy shoes, leggings and hair! She picked up this next dude - who so couldn't dance! - but it was sweet. (pics via link below!)

What I loved best was the fact it was her, 2 bv's and a keyboard player, with 2 keys, mac book, vocoder (which he didn't even need) and an mpc! - that's realness!

Great nite overall!

p.s. dramas in my ends again as some one got stabbed up - nothing new. The joke was everyone was more excited about seeing the rapid response unit and the Virgin Helicopter - you would have thought there were giving out free chicken! (No pics coz I don't want to look like the other chavs in the ends!)

Brit awards 2008 - UPDATE

UPDATED _ sorry got caught up with life and had to put this on hold...

Forgot Kaiserchiefs coz they were boring.... the set was trying to hide them anyway.

p.s. BPI love taking things down on YT.......

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Why was Rihanna there? LOL
So OK I totally got it all over the place with the winners but anyway, we all know it's all about the pats on the back for the labels!
Winners:
PERFORMANCES
Mika/Beth Ditto:
What was the point????? Beth rocks, but Mika was terribly flat on his entries and it reminded me of Scissor Sisters Tooooo much!
Kylie:
Looked a little boring, but standard - this is a tune!
Rihanna/The Klaxons:
Pointless! That backing singer was making some money last night!
Leona Lewis:
Can someone please overdose her on personality! (Sorry but Simon Cowell did NOT need X Factor to bring this chick out. The programme will never have any real credability!)
Dancing was on point though - they had to distract from her lack of stage presence! Shout out to my boy H2O - repping for East! There was a couple of stupidly flat notes too with the big notes at the end! - It's funny how Cowell always says that about people but he can't sing - how would you know the difference in a semitone? Nothing the beats the feedback at the end - always keep mics away from the speakers! (No I'm not bitter!)
Mark Ronson/Adele/Daniel Merriwether/Wino:
Very patchy and just filler for Amy's return! Daniel was good although he was subject to a couple of flat notes. OK I spose! Amy's 'dancing' always cracks me up!
Wino's solo:
Allow Blake!!!!!!!! Ok, reminds me of the Frank era
Sir PM:
Macca did well - I just love watching/listening to his drummer! he didn't do Coming Up or Get Back, but he did Live & Let Die! Tune!
Season 7!
Just realised how much of a choon this is - listening to songs for my friend's wedding reception. (This will be one of the best receptions - West Indian/Ugandan cuisine and 12 of the best singers East London gave birth too as well as 5 of the best musicians you will ever hear play!!!)
yeah so anyway....
